Welcome to Under The Sun Productions.

Gary M Planken (filmmaker) came onto the scene in the mid 90’s, the beginning of the new ( now, not so new) Digital Revolution. It became apparent that you did not have to wait for the ok from someone else to, ” Make your Movie”. After watching for many years, as friends waited with baited breath, for that one in a million phone call,  the age had arrived where we had the power to take those scripts  and make our movies a reality. The power to do the movie making was now in our hands, the question is, did we have the guts to begin the abyss of making a movie.

Many of us just went out and learned, hands on.  Someone had lights, someone bought a camera, and we all know a dozen  people that are or want to be actors, and so it began.

Were they great movies at first, maybe not, did they stink (not too bad) They were ok, and they were new and refreshing. The everyday man or woman could now tell their story. It was fun and exciting and they got better as we went along. From that point forward camera work changed dramatically. What was once “Breaking the Rules) was now becoming acceptable, ( shaking cameras, running-bumpy images.) .
I remember a friend of mine who was doing camera work for the History/Discovery/A+E productions. He says “You broke all the rules, and I loved it”. My response:”You have to know the rules to break them” We laughed. Now 24, The Unit, and lots of shows are doing what we did when we were “Breaking the Rules. Now we are looking for a new rule to break so to speak.
I like hand held helicopter shots these days, it gives you a real feel of the flight and action your filming.
Hang outside a helicopter with your feet on the landing gear shooting with the wind kicking your ass, now thats my definition of a good time. (I get bored easy)

Somewhere along the way we won a few awards at film festivals, made a few more movies, made some very cool documentaries, made a few commercials, did some music videos, and threw caution out the window (Along with the paying jobs) Ahhhhh!!!!!!

We now offer our services and experience to you.
