“A Master of Titanic Portraits”
The Purple Heart is a 30 min documentary by award winning filmmaker Gary M Planken, about the Worlds Largest Portrait of the Purple Heart Medal of Honor, mowed into a field by artist Roger Baker.
Mr Baker felt a deep desire to honor all the men and women who stood tall in a time of extreme crisis…life and death situations…..and honor their fellow human beings.
Roger called his friend (filmmaker) Gary Planken with his idea about the idea for his latest field portrait. Planken wasn’t so sure of the idea, and all the negative connotations that war can sturr-up. After listening to Roger and hearing their mutual feelings about wars, he realized Roger’s desire to honor these people had more to do with the human spirit of honor and love for your fellow man/woman. It’s not a political statement or anything related to why there are wars. It’s a gesture from a world renowned artist, who could have picked a dozen other portraits to create, but he was moved to say thanks to this group of self-less individuals who put it all on the line when someone else was in need of their help. It’s a giant thank-you card, 850,000 sq ft in size.
